Sort of like the Australian Democrats, only in turbans.

One of the things that struck me while reading media reports about the recent biffo* in Afghanistan was the way various journos kept referring to an attack by “Taliban extremists”.

As opposed to what, Taliban moderates?

“Well, yes, you have been found guilty of sending your daughter to school but instead of stoning you to death you’ll receive a written reprimand.

“Oh, and you’ll have to pick up all the rubbish around the cave for a week.”

UPDATE:

On doing some research for this rant, I’ve discovered most of the journos are now describing them as “Taliban fighters”. Which is a little better, but given they were armed with machine guns and rocket propelled grenades, they were hardly going to be “Taliban social workers”.

*I’m not going to describe it as a “firefight”. People who use the word “firefight” are cunts.

Actually, I think there were once moderate elements within the Taliban, but they have been overwhelmed by the extremists.

Anyway, why do we never hear anything from the Taliban Greens?

"Our faithful Taliban peoples, you are free to blow up the godless facist American stormtroopers, as long as you do it in a carbon neutral way. And leave the tanks at home. Attack them by bicycle. The environment will thank you for it!"

Evil comes in many forms and goes by many names. Over time the forms shift, the names change, but the core nature of evil remains unchanged and is self-perpetuating.

I know first hand what it's to live under a brutal, sadistic, oppressive theocracy. To have ones every thought and action controlled by a group of twisted, vindictive, zealots who justify their daily atrocities by invoking the authority of God himself.

Today we call them "Taliban". Back then we called them "Carmelite Nuns".

Beware nuns with guns, I say.

I wish we'd all stop referring to SAS troops as "special forces". It's a dreadful Americanism that makes me wish those responsible for re-publishing it were caught in a firefight.

Beware nuns with guns and tatts.

And what is a 'carmelised' nun anyway? Does she have hot caramel dripped all over her?

Jamie, I'm sure they're all special to their mums.

And Mr E's nuns sound more like Armalite Nuns to me.

Are any of you fine gents watching Palin's speech at the RNC at the moment? I think I have reached the age where yelling at the TV is acceptable.

Sorry Dad.. you were right. You said one day I would be doing the same thing and at 41 I am.

Whoops way off topic there...hi Jamie welcome back to the madhouse that is TSFKA. Exciting times here as Perseus has an all important 'sleepover' this weekend and over here in the Caribbean we're bearing down for what will be flash flooding and sea surges thanks to a weather system named after a renowned wife beater.

Living by the sea ain't all its cracked up to be.

Happy days happy days.

UPDATE: Palin has just finished and on walks all the family with the sporgged up daughter hand in hand with the redneck sperm donor.

"Noice different yeah but noice"

To be honest homesick, I'm all U.S electioned out.

At the moment, I'm eating a roast pork sandwich while reading Let the right one in and drinking a cup of tea.

Later, I might go outside and have a ciggie.

The life of a spin-doctor is a constant, giddy whirl.

And here I was thinking the life of the average spin doctor was all coke and parties.

I'd be electioned out too if it wasn'ton every TV channel, newspaper and radio station over here.

Enjoy your lunch Ramon. Many believe the best thing to do is live life as normal as possible when the Western world is going to hell in a handbag.

I'm off to bed to dream of better times.

There's something strangely appropriate about a spin doctor eating pork.

Homesick, to make you feel better, you might like to hear what the GOP really think of Palin.

Voltaire said "we must cultivate our garden", homesick.

I wish I knew what that meant.

Or that I liked gardening more.

Homesick I caught some of it.

McCain has made a huge boo boo. She's got white trash writ large on her permanently concerned looking face.

I like all the comments on the bottom of the CNN screen. "pregnant teenage daughter, Down's Syndrome child"

But at least she was born in 1964, like all the best people. I'm feeling very old today.

It meant Voltaire was staunchly opposed to waxing, and especially to brazilians.

It also meant that when Voltaire stepped out onto the banks of the Seine in his mankini to write about the "liberty of fashion, freedom of dress and enlightenment of the hirsute", it weasn't a pretty sight.

She's no Princess Mary, but Palin's a bit hot. After half a bottle of wine I'd hit it.

Hey Boogeyman, want to go double or nothing on that dollar? I'm still sticking with my original thought that McCain will win because of rednecks.

No offence Pers old son, but I really hope the coming weekend with Artemis produces some results.

You're beginning to worry me.

You're on, Perseus.

I was waiting for the ex-wife comment Mr E.

Mr E said...

Witchy,
While I hold the greatest contempt for the Catholic Church and the Taliban, making a comparison to my ex would be a bit extreme. On rare occasions, both organisations have demonstrated that deep down there remains a spark of human compassion and decency invalidating any genuine comparision. What ever sins either organisation are guilty of, none involved the use of my credit cards, bed linen or the UGA Bulldogs football team.
